Principal's Message

Welcome to Carleton Heights! Bonjour et bienvenue à Carleton Heights!

At Carleton Heights, we thank the Algonquin Anishinaabe People, and respectfully acknowledge that our learning, playing, and growing takes place on their unceded, and unsurrendered homeland, and we recognize their enduring presence on this land.  

It is our pleasure to be your Principal/Vice-Principal for the 2023-2024 school year. 

As your principal, It is a pleasure and honor to begin a new journey of learning at Carleton Heights for the 2023-2024 school year. My educational career has spanned 27 years as a teacher, instructional coach and administrator in the United States and Canada. Through my many experiences working with and alongside students, staff & communities, I have come to know that learning requires a team approach and it is strong relationships and connections that result in the richest learning. Through our rich learning opportunities, it is my hope that we will build strong relationships together and a sense of belonging where each student feels included, safe to take risks in learning, and will gain the knowledge and skills to become independent, lifelong learners. 

As your vice principal, I am thrilled to have joined the Carleton Heights team. I have been involved in education for more than 28 years in Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia, as a French Immersion teacher, Special Education Teacher and school administrator. At Carleton Heights, learning, well-being and equity are at the heart of our work. I hope to focus on building a safe, caring and respectful school culture where students can be successful and that supports and engages our staff, students and families. 

Carleton Heights provides an equitable, inclusive and supportive learning environment for our diverse community of students. Our dedicated staff of teachers, early childhood educators, educational assistants, support staff and community members are committed to providing a place where students participate actively in their learning and have voice/input in their learning. The Carleton Heights Staff is committed to continued Equity and Diversity learning and discussions/implementation of the OCDSB Indigenous, Equity and Human Rights Roadmap and implementing the Right to Read recommendations to address systemic issues that affect the right to learn to read.

Our goal for Carleton Heights is be a community school; providing each child with the opportunity to achieve their potential, to be mathematically literate, to be critical thinkers and to have a life-long love of learning. We are proud of our students' academic achievements and continue to strive to improve the quality of our instruction through all areas of the curriculum. We provide a safe learning community for all students and we strive to engage all learners and to provide them with voice and input into their learning communities.

At Carleton Heights, we want our students to feel a warm welcome. We know that the future starts today, in our classrooms with each and every child who enters. Students, teachers, support staff, parents, School Council, and the community at large work together in promoting a true partnership that makes Carleton Heights everything a school should be.

We are excited to begin a new school year together; to reconnect and ensure a love of learning is launched in a safe and equitable learning environment.
